The true cost of an offshore accountant, line by line
Headline rates are not costs. Here is every line that belongs in the comparison, including the four that proposals usually leave out.
A fast close is not a harder close. It is a close where most of the work already happened before the month ended.
Teams that close late are usually not slower than teams that close early. They are doing the same work, compressed into the wrong week.
Bank reconciliations, payables coding, payroll accruals and prepaid amortisation do not need month end to happen. Reconcile daily, code on receipt, and schedule recurring journals to post automatically. By day one, most of the close should already be done.
Most close delays are queues, not tasks. Map which steps genuinely depend on which, and you will usually find two or three artificial sequences that can run in parallel.
Agree a threshold below which variances are not investigated. Without one, teams investigate everything, and the close finishes when someone loses patience rather than when the work is complete.
Every line needs an owner, a due day and a sign-off. Unsigned lines block the close. A checklist nobody signs is a to-do list, and to-do lists do not close books.
